    The Week 14 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings

    By MJD

    Shutdown Corner presents the weekly quarterback power rankings. They're just as arbitrarily decided as normal power rankings, except they rank quarterbacks, not whole teams. Rankings are based on play this year alone and meant to represent who is playing the best football at the current moment.

    2. Philip Rivers(notes), San Diego Chargers [IMG] [IMG]

    Rivers' performance against the Cowboys was better than the statistics would show: 21-of-32 for 272 yards, one touchdown and one interception. When the Chargers needed one more score to put the gane away, though, Rivers was all that is man. He went 4-of-5 for 73 yards on the drive, with a touchdown pass to Antonio Gates(notes) capping it off.

    There are no statistical formulae to reflect Poise, Control and Game management - each of which Phil has improved at year-on-year.
    He is absolutely at the the top of his game right now.

    Can he get even better?
    Now aint that a scary thought :yes:

    Speaking of QBs.

    Charlie Frye is going to start for the Raiders sunday.

    I think we can say it now, Ryan Leaf is no longer the biggest bust in NFL history, that honor now goes to;

    JaBustus Russell.

    Sorry but based on what SD gave up to draft him, it will be a while before someone eclipses that tool.

    Leaf = 2 1st a 2nd and 2 players.

    JaBust = 1 1st

    yeah but if you look at the $ both teams paid them (even adjusted for inflation) that evens it out again.

    NO leaf really blew it for us. Not only did he bust. He dragged the team down with him way more than russel bc of his personality issues. We would have been better off lossing the money from leaf and the players just to have had him never come to sd!

    Russle has brought the franchise down as well. He makes everyone play worst. Also I think he has a worst QB rating then Leaf. He tries harder to lose games.

    Yet you think he would be a better head coach than the guy who has the highest winning percentage in Chargers head coaching history. :lol:

    I should have kept the pre-edit version of that post "was Mike Riley a joke as well?" that way your "yes" answer could have a double meaning.

    Ryan Leaf is biggest qb bust in history of nfl hands down- he was #2 overall pick and most analysts though he should go ahead of peyton manning. His play plus his attitude and the way he embarrassed himself and the whole chargers organizatiion set us back at least 5 yrs cuz we were left without a competent qb

    I'd say River's is in the top three QB's in the League. I would rate it like this, River's, Manning P. Brady. Of course that's just the homer coming out in me.

    if next april I see Russell's picture instead on Leaf's in those 354 articles about draft busts then I'll agree

    I think Russell needs to lash out at the media or something to get over the hump :icon_shrug:

    I don't think Russell gives a **** enough to lash out at anyone.

    He also needs to post something worse than a career 14-36 TD-INT ratio.

    While Jamarcus' is bad (17-22) it's not quite that bad.

    Ryan Leaf is still a bigger bust than JaMarcus.

    The Raiders simply used just their #1 overall to grab JaBustus.

    The Bolts traded UP to grab Leaf. For the #2 overall, they traded away their own slightly lower first rounder, their 1999 first rounder, their 1998 second rounder, LB Patrick Sapp, and RB/WR Eric Metcalf to the Arizona Cardinals. All to move up one fricking draft spot (from #3 overall to #2 overall).

    Here's what Arizona did with those draft picks:

    1998 1st round - DE Andre Wadsworth

    1998 2nd round - DB Corey Chavus

    1999 1st round - WR David Boston
