As a nurse, I've stopped to offer assistance at accident scenes, in shopping malls, even at the airport once (an elderly woman had gotten pinned between cars and was going into shock when I arrived on the scene). This situation makes me want to reevaluate my thinking along these lines, because even though the so-called Good Samaritan laws protect me as well as everyone else, I'd be held to a higher standard in case anything happened to go sideways during a rescue effort. Now I'm afraid the lawyers would eat me for breakfast, just because I have more medical knowledge than the average person AND a professional license to boot.

Hmmmmm.......I wonder how many people are going to step up to the plate and try to save somebody, if this sort of thing becomes commonplace?

If someone can now sue someone, what good are those Good Samaritan Laws? So if I stop to help change a flat tire, and their engine blows up, am I going to be held liable?

California, through this, wants to apparently remove the good samaritan laws because many believe that these good samaritans do more harm at accident scenes then good. And this woman's case, her injuries were increased because she was roughly yanked away from the car like that. Supposedly (and take it with a grain of salt) there are other cases on the books where Samaritans perform CPR or do this and cause worse injuries.

Still the Good Samaritan Law is on the book specifically because you want people to help their fellow man/woman out in a tough time like this. You won't do that if you can (and in all likeliness WILL) be sued by the person you help. This will bite California in the *** so hard it'll take a hunk of flesh off. When people stop helping each other out because of this, there will be no one to blame but the lawyers. And alot of good people might have their lives ruined because of it, on both sides.

Raiderh8r, good samaritan laws are ONLY in case of injuries or life threatening circumstances. Tire changing doesn't count and in a case like that you could sue the vehicle owner more likely.

It is a pity. I wonder how many people will not make it now because of this.
