As the team celebrates its 50th Anniversary Season, take a look back at this date in Chargers history.

    September 7, 1981

Dan Fouts passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns, Chuck Muncie rushes for 161 yards, and Charlie Joiner catches six passes for 191 yards as the Chargers rout Cleveland 44-14 before 78,904 fans in Cleveland in the season opener on Monday Night Football.

I am trying to imagine how frustrating it must have been for an opposing fan to see C. Joiner rip your team up. I mean the guy wasn't fast, he wasn't big, he never did anything in a spectacular way. He just got open all the time.

    I remember watching that game.

I was in graduate school, renting a room in a house from a crabby old lady, and trying to keep the cheering down as I watched the game from my bunker of a room as the Chargers just kept scoring.

I've never seen a QB and his receivers more on the same page than Fouts and co.

Fouts would throw a pass to a spot on the field before anyone was even close. And before you know it Joiner and company would be haulin in the pass

I want Rivers to duplicate that feat in this opener. More rubbing of noses in dirt, please.
