    It hasn't been a banner year for some of the NFL's best running backs.

    Don't believe it? Just ask Shaun Alexander, Clinton Portis, Edgerrin James and Willis McGahee.
    And if you don't believe them, ask Cadillac Williams.

    Nobody could've expected that a list of the league's top running backs wouldn't include Alexander, the reigning MVP, who returned to the Seahawks Sunday for the first time since breaking his foot. He couldn't make a difference as the resurgent 49ers defeated the defending NFC champions.
