LaDainian Tomlinson remembers his TCU teammates and what he accomplished with them more than his individual achievements during a record-breaking college career.

Tomlinson was back on campus in Fort Worth, Texas, for a game Saturday night for the first time since his senior season five years ago. L.T. was honored on the same night the No. 18 Horned Frogs won their regular-season finale 51-3 against UNLV as outright Mountain West Conference champions.

''That's actually great that it kind of worked out that way,'' said Tomlinson, the school's career rushing leader with 5,263 yards and 54 touchdowns who now plays for the San Diego Chargers.

When Tomlinson was a freshman in 1997, TCU was 1-10. Coach Dennis Franchione replaced Pat Sullivan the next year, and the Frogs began an impressive turnaround, which is what Tomlinson said he remembers the most.

''Three straight bowl games we went to, just how close we were as a team,'' said Tomlinson, a Heisman finalist in his final year. ``I really remember the days we had with Fran out there in the hot sun, the good times we had on the road and in the locker room, just all the times with your teammates. That's what I really miss.''

Tomlinson got to see TCU play at San Diego State two weeks ago but finally returned to Texas this weekend when the Chargers had a bye week. The Frogs are in the midst of their fourth winning season in the five years since he left.

Wearing a black suit with pinstripes of purple, TCU's primary color, along with purple-accented shoes, Tomlinson was greeted with loud chants of ''L-T, L-T, L-T'' when he came onto the field at halftime and video clips of his Frogs' career were shown in the stadium.

No one has worn his No. 5 jersey since he left, and no one will in the future without Tomlinson's approval.

On Friday, he received his general studies degree he completed in August, the fulfillment of a promise made to his mother.

Tomlinson was the NCAA's leading rusher his junior and senior seasons, running for 2,158 yards and 22 TDs in 2000.

    It all works out
