If David Shaw were actually available he'd be 1 or 2 on my list.

Saban = bleh. A control freak who failed already at managing grownups.

I wouldn't say he failed. He coached 2 seasons after hitching his star to Daunte Culpepper, which blew up in his face, then took an extremely attractive job at Alabama.

True, but it had to get to that point where Chicago were leaning on others to get them into the playoffs, when they had a 7-1 record halfway through the season. Had they beat the Vikings and Packers then they deserve to be in the playoffs, but bottom line is, they didn't. And they were pretty healthy in both those games.

And again, Lovie is a players coach. Much like Norv. When you draft a player, like Lovie did with Hester, and with him for 6 of your 9 years there you grow a great bond and relationship much like Rivers and Norv did. But Hester actually came out and said the anger, and retirement has nothing to do with the firing.

Actually, from everything I have heard, he wanted Brees but management didn't and decided to get Culpepper instead, and Saben decided he would rather go back to college than rely on a QB that he didn't want. He wanted Brees prior to 06 and when he didn't get him, he went back to college after that season

Smiths failure was his hirings of OC's the last few years. He was a good HC, but did a terrible job at hiring OC's

Saban did very well with the Dolphins if I could remember correctly. He sure knows how to beat the Patriots thats for sure. His teams play hard on defense, of course, but the offense is where I would be worried. Just like at Alabama, his offenses aren't great at all, and you can't win in the NFL on FG's all the time. In the NFL its tough to win a game 12-9 or 15-6.

But, I think he is very happy at Bama, can't see him leaving. I can see Cleveland being a possibility. They have a good young defense, and his former running back he won't mind handing the ball of to almost every down. Mix in the fact, he'd probably draft another of his own to help Richardson out, in Eddie Lacy.

But getting back to David Shaw, I have no clue how much he is getting paid, but I think Dean needs to make a serious push for him. Because in a year or two he'll be the most sought out College Coach, and possible Coach in the country. I'm warning everyone here, he will be a big time coach in the NFL. I hope Ron Wolf advises Dean to make him a really tempting offer to lure him away from Stanford.

Also, San Diego is his hometown, so maybe that will have something to persuade him.

I'd really like to get Joiner to OC, just don't know why he's never been given a shot.

A forward Petrino typically involves a motorcycle and an intern.

Ironic coming after your last post.

Petrino signed a 10 year contract extension with Louisville 6 months before he left for Atlanta.

I guess that's not within one month, though.

Petrino is exactly who I'd start comparing Shaw to if he leaves Stanford at this point.

I wouldn't care if it helped us win a Super Bowl.

Not that I'm saying Shaw would do that. I don't know much about him.

But I also had Mike Singletary and Rex Ryan at the top of my wishlist the last time we were looking for a new head coach, so take my opinion on this hunt with a grain of salt. :roflmao:

That is why I don't want to claim who I want, becuase I know I have terrible taste. What I knew 6 years ago is that I wanted an upgrade from Marty, something we didn't get. And what I want this time is an upgrade over Norv, time will tell if we get it or not

Ehhh! Another off the Bellichick tree...like McDaniels, Crennel, Mangini, Saban, Weis etc..

The only one to have a shred of NFL success is Jim Schwartz, and that kind of fell apart after he lost 8 strait games this year.

I'll believe Dean pays the $9 million to buyout his contract with PSU when I see it happen.

I never got a clear answer if that buyout was for any team or for another college team to grab him

I have a hard time believing O'Brien is going to be able to leave Penn State. The PSU boosters will dig deep to give him more money if that's what it takes to sway him. They got rid of the scandal stench in his first year. No way they let him walk now.

    And then there's this:
    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...en-big-buyout-for-interested-nfl-teams-010113

But if you're O'Brien... it's not really a bad thing to let the rumors dangle a little while longer.
