    Initial impressions:
-Probably wasn't more than 5-10 dropped balls all day. To a man this receiving crew can catch. Best catches were by M80 and KA and Tevin Reese. Reese caught everything thrown his way.

    - Rivers was solid all day. Clemens was hit and miss except for a long TD to Reese, who had broken open by 8 yards. Sorenson looks better than Clemens to me at this point.

    - Troutman starting for Clary. Looked good but went out with cramps towards end of practice. Watt backed him up and also was in at backup center. Mike Harris looks bigger and better than ever.

    - Gates was targeted more than anyone and caught everything. LDG is going to go crazy this year but don't sleep on Gates. He can still play.

    - Flowers and Wright starting outside with Verrett at the nickel, and Verrett and Marshall backing up outside and Stevie in the nickel backup. Flowers absolutely blanketed a few receivers during 7 on 7 drills to the point that the QB pulled up and didn't throw.

    - The backup punter is bad. Weddle could out punt him.

    - Ryan Mathews looks fast. Donald Brown is small and agile and catches well. Da any is a crazy freak who looks awfully happy to be here in SD for a few more years. Grove looks solid, but Oliver looked really good today.

    - Alden Darby looks like a beast. I think he makes this team.

    - Johnson, the H Back from Pittsburgh looks big and solid. Very well may be the FB/TE hybrid this year.

    - Had their been contact Freeney would have killed a couple of QB's today. Liuget also made some crazy good moves to the inside.

    - did I mention the backup punter sucked. Short left footed ducks.

    - really nice long TD from Rivers to KA over the shoulder ****.

Last cool thing I saw: The little mini drone quad copter they were using to film part of practice was awesome. People in the crowd were teasing it was Belichick.

What were your thoughts on Verrett?

Quick, He looks well built for his size/weight, not skinny, pretty solid. He played solid tight coverage when man to man. Needs to learn the playbook better to handle zones.

Sounds like they were keeping Gates busy to keep his mind off his sister's death. Football can be a solace for a player.

Those are all encouraging signs. I called for Sorenson to beat out Clemens and also Watt to backup at C. I fully believe Watt will play a role similar to Ohrenberger last year, if he can beat him out. If he can, they'll carry an extra OG most likely. I like Watts and Troutman, but both have something to prove and hope they take advantage of their chances with Clary on the sideline.

Don't know how I feel about Verrett playing the nickel. I still believe the best nickel CB on this team is Marcus Gilchrist. How is that camp battle going between Addae and Gilchrist by the way?

Great to see a vet like JJ assisting Attaochu. This is what I was hoping would happen and continues to happen. Classy and a real professional JJ is.

Having Both JJ and Freeney to tutor the young guys is "priceless" as Jerry said.

Gilly was starting at SS with the 1's for now. Addae was still making plays, especially in the backfield. JJ and Ming the Merciless were starting at OLB during run plays while Ming and Freeney were together during passing plays. Verrett was outside with the 2's but starting at nickel with the 1's.

Good to hear M80 is back to form. It could be a great year.

If this team stays healthy, they could have a really, really good year. It's a big IF and I know I'm guilty of saying it every year but, this team looks really good on paper. We actually have depth at almost every position. Last year was a year to build off.. Hoping for bigger and better things this year!

.@Chargers look much improved. 1st 2 draft picks look very good. Flowers should help shore up def. Tough division but they should compete.

Went to practice again today. Dontrelle Inman is making the most of VB being on the sideline. Kid is playing well and making every catch. He is fighting to be on this roster. Tevin Reese is burning people deep on a regular basis. As long as he can get off the check at the line, dude is going to be dangerous. Attack-U (Attachao) is so quick off the line. Freeney looks healthy and is schooling O-lineman on a regular basis. KA pulled a sweet double move on Brandon Flowers and caught a 40 yard TD pass. Besides that pass Brandon Flowers basically wore every receiver like a blanket. Branden Oliver still looks so quick and smooth. Kid is definitely making the practice squad.
