What is going on with these Charger players running their mouths, when we haven't accomplished anything?

LT talkin, Cooper, Wilhelm, etc. Is this a reflection of Norv not having control of the team? Where does this cockiness stem from? a 14-2 season with a playoff exit? Is it overconfidence? Do the players feel like they just need to show up to games, talk some trash, give a half-asses effort, and the game will be handed to them on a silver platter?

I've never seen a Charger team run their mouths so often and not back it up. This attitude is bringing bad karma to the team and has to stop now. The whole one play at a time mantra that Marty had seemed to be more effective than what Norv is doing right now. if anything Marty knew how to keep his players grounded and their egos in check.

    Thoughts?

It could start with the QB since he is throwing his helmet and popping off at the sorriest corners in the league. :icon_eek: :icon_eek:

Yup, forgot to mention Philip. Look I love his fire and intensity on the field. But he too needs to shut up and step up as the leader of the offense.

I hate it that they are running their mouths off like they are. I hope the Patriot loss will teach them to just shut up and play some good NFL-Football :bolt:

Yes, this IS a reflection of Norv not having control of the team!!!
If he steps up and takes control, I'll give him some credit!!!

the chargers were too confident, too self assured and too assuming things will just work out in their favor.
They used to have the swagger that comes from hard work and knowing they're going to play well and now their swagger assumes too much.

Maybe a little humble pie will get these guys to quit jawing and get down to business. This offense has had no central focus, no blocking, blown patterns, dropped balls and a QB that has gone from an All Pro to a shambles with bad mechanics who throws bricks. Norval needs to seize the team by the scruff of the neck and shake a little sense into them. The kind of talk we hear from them right now smacks of bad morale and that's a product of poor leadership among the players AND the coaches.

BTW... Are you referring to something recently said by either of these players? If so, do you have any links.
If any of them are trash talking after Sunday night, they're just plain stupid!!!

I don't think they were saying much of anything after the game. But what were they thinking after week 1 game commenting on Bears and then going into the Pats game? Honestly, I think they have been humbled.

It doesn't matter what he did - that's the Mangino way. BTW Mangino is friends with the Rivers family and knows him very well.

I remember seeing a quote by Drayton Florence prior to the game where he basically says the Patriots will have no shot at getting a completion down the field to Moss. Said they were only going to have the underneath routes...

Well, guess what Drayton? You stupid mutherf*(ker... they did have the underneath routes... and the downfield routes... and any other route they wanted to run...

And what did this dumbazz say after the game? Here are some less than insightful comments:

About the TD he gave up when Moss ran straight up the field and Florence stood stupidly mesmerized watching Tom Brady drop back and throw:
"It was a good pass and a good catch," Florence said of the play. "You know he's going to try to throw the ball to Randy Moss."

    On how Tom Brady looked:
"It just looks like he has more confidence in (his receivers) than he did last year," Florence said

NO ****, DRAYTON??? You don't say!! Did you not watch any tape of the Jets game??

If there's anyone on this team that should have NOTHING to say the rest of the season... it's Florence.

But I hope everyone now buttons it up and just focuses on the game ahead.

You're absolutely right to stop trash talking and Philip calming down.
But here over in Europe I can't hear Wilhelm or Cooper talking trash.
Where did they do it ?

He did a swan dive into the End Zone and got a 15yrd penalty for it.

That is why the coach got in his face.

Trash talking by the bolts? How freaking stupid is that. They have done NOTHING to talk about. ZERO.
They got their asses handed to them.

And LT. Damn dude, would you just STFU??? If someone sticks a mike in your face and asks you about the next opponent, just say NOTHING!! OR "We are preparing to playing them and that is where we are focusing our attention".

    End of comment.

I'm all for giving Oliver every opportunity to start. We haven't seen him in any real action, so no harm in giving him at try.

i don't mind a bit of trash talking but its been
    1. Done without proving anything
    2. Way too insulting
    3. Spoken way too frequently
    4. Not backed up in the most remote sort of way

There's only 2 guys on this team that have any right to talk **** based on recent play: Gates and Merriman. The rest need to STFU and do something that doesn't involve us getting our asses kicked all over the field and made to look like a JV team.

That's very true, although I personally still prefer to see the play on the field do the talking. But IF you can back it up I can accept some.

The leaders of this team need to step up, whether the coaching staff does it or not. There's been a lot of talk about learning from last year's loss to the Pats, wanting to be champions, expecting the best from themselves, yadayadayada. Well, guys, it doesn't just happen.

You've got to want it more than the next guy. You've got to bring it all the time, every time. You've got to step up & be a leader - and know what leading means.

If Norv doesn't have the qualities necessary to be a HC, fine. Demote him to OC (which is really what he is) & bump Rivera. I'm not ready to ditch him yet, but he sure better have a better plan of attack for GB than he had for the Pats. Cottrell, too - I don't want to see his Vikings defense here in SD. Our CB's need to step up & hit some folks in the mouth. WR's need to be afraid to come across the middle on us. We all know our secondary is suspect, which is all the more reason that we need to blitz the crap out of our opponents. I say blitz until they figure out how to beat it! Aggression is our
    friend!!!! :icon_evil:

The Chargers won't get the respect we all want for them until they can take a punch & give a better one back. Clean, hard-nosed, take-no-phucing-prisoners football.

AJ - you say you want to win? At the risk of sounding like a broken record, you better have a talk with your boys (Norv & Ted) about what you expect.

Apparently they didn't get the memo. :censored:
