6 batters 4 runs, blows the save.....yes I'm calling for his head and its only 3 games in. Where the hell is Heath Bell? Coughmans days are over. Hopefully this is his last year.

I hope that was his last game. He should have retired after he screwed us out of the playoffs last season. Thanks Trevor for what you did in the 20th century. It's time to move on.

He just doesn't have it anymore.

His Fastball is 85 on a good day and when he mixes that with his change up, it is like batting practice.

He still has a fastball? I thought it was his changeup.

He's reaching 89-90 mph this year, even in the BS

    Even I'm surprised.

He hadn't done that since before his 2003 surgery.

The offseason surgery this time must have done wonders for him.

Were you watching the game or just reading the stat line?

    See above post

And even despite that, his fastball was roughly 85-86 the past few years at best and that didn't stop him from still being one of the best closers in the game those years.

The game wasn't on up here, haven't seen his radar numbers this year and the 2 blow saves at the end of last year are still sitting in my mind.

If he is reaching the high 80s now, great. I just don't have that same comfort level that I used to when he enters a 1 run game.

I understand the 2 BSs at the end of the season last year still sting but that doesn't negate the fact that that's still last year and prior to his offseason surgery that apparently did wonders for him.

As is, he's hitting 89-90 on the gun and is 2 for 3 in save opportunities in this young season.

Game 3 against Houston was more about location mistakes with his change up than whether or not he's still able to pitch effectively.

And no, he's not the same Trevor that we all knew in the late 90s, but then again, he hasn't been for the past 4 seasons now....but that still hasn't prevented him from being one of the most reliable closers in the game over that timespan.

Whether or not he continues to be as reliable this year remains to be seen, we just don't know this conclusion is the case based off one blown save anymore than we did after he blew the home opener in 2004 and everyone said he was done.

trev is done after this year. People need to put behind them that he is the MLB save leader. When you start breaking years long records, you know its just about time to hang it up. Anyways, padres bats go silent, get mashed by the dodgers...ho hum...

The time is definitely coming soon.

Whether or not that's this year or next year remains to be seen.

I know I sound like a broken record but people have been saying he's done every year since 2004.

We won't know it until we actually see it. (And no, seeing one blown save isn't actually seeing it.)

People need to put behind them the misconceived notion that they can tell the future.

Im just sick of people thinking he still is what he used to be when he seriously isnt. I think Black made the big mistake in sending Trev in the last games last year when he blew two straight, especially when Bell was unhittable. Hoffy is not as dominant as he was years ago. Although he gets it done against poor hitters, the elite class will burn him up/

I don't think anyone thinks he is what he was in the late 90s

The debate is always "he's done" vs "he is still one of the more reliable closers in the game"

As for the last 2 games of last year, you might be right considering Trevor's injury, but at the same time it's easy to say that after the fact.

Who knows, he might be done this season after all.

But if he is he didn't have to deceive us with that newfound heat on his fastball.

How much did your reinstatement cost?

Oh And Trevor......yeah the 9th i scary now and has been since lastyear.. He converted many yes, but it was an adventure.
Trevor has been great but it is time to give him to Bochy who loves the old dudes. For that Matter, give him Jim Edmunds too.

I agree. Trevor is toast. Bell is going to be much better than Trevor could be for us this year. Either send Trevor to the Minors or if possible cut him entirely. Hoffman is done.

I am on the Trevor hate wagon.

You don't have to hate the 2nd biggest Padres icon in the franchise's history to think he's done.

Did you two hate Tony Gwynn in the twilight of his career as well?

Didn't see it, just the box score. How was his velocity? He back to that 5 mph spread?

No I do not hate Tony Gwynn what so ever. He had hurt knees so that is why I do not hate him.

On the other hand with Trevor Hoffman he is done put a big fork in him. Let Heath Bell save the games now.

So yes right now I hate Trevor Hoffman. He should have retired last year. Trevor is just going to hurt this years team when it comes down to the Ninth Inning and needing his save to seal the game up. He will blow a lot of saves that would have gotten us the win.

Trevor has done a lot for the Padres.

I think he has earned the right to decide when he's done.

Bud Black has the ability to change his role if that's neccesary, but Trevor can retire whenever he wants to.

Trevor should be just a 7th Inning to the end of the 8th Inning set up man for Heath Bell to close out the games. That is all I think he is good for now.

But why do you hate Trevor?

It's not his decision to keep himself in that role.

It wasn't a save opportunity, the game was tied when he came in.

Trevor should say to Bud that he can not save any more and be the set up man for Bell.

I doubt that Trevor will do that.

That is why I have my hate.
