Polamalu tests injured knee, may play Sunday

    By Scott Brown
    PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Troy Polamalu started running today and he has not ruled out playing Sunday when the Steelers host the San Diego Chargers in an 8:20 p.m. game.

"It would be nice to play this weekend," Polamalu said. "We'll see."

Despite his optimism, Polamalu, who has missed the last two games with a sprained left knee, is a long shot to play against the Chargers.

Since getting hurt in the Steelers' season opener Polamalu said he has been lifting and doing cardiovascular work. Today marked a significant step in his recovery as he actually ran on the knee he hurt when Tennessee Titans tight end Alge Crumpler fell on his leg on Sept. 10.

"I really felt well," Polamalu said.

    Troy --

Give it another week. We wouldn't want you to hurt it again trying to chase down VJ and Floyd. We only have your best interests at heart :icon_mrgreen:

Damn I hope he doesn't play. I don't want the good Steelers... I want the Steelers who lost to Chicago two weeks ago.

I just want a win.

I was listening to the radio this morning and Scott & BR had on a writer from Shittsburgh and he said 100% NO WAY he plays this Sunday - maybe a smoke screen...

I actually hope Polamalu plays. I want to see him get his face smashed into the ground. No, I don't want to see him hurt. I don't wish that on any player. But he's a Steeler, so he sucks. All Steelers suck.

Honestly? Seems like the same article written about LT this morning. My guess is they are both smoke screens.

There is a difference. LT is projected to be healthy after a couple of weeks. He practiced and looked fine.

Troy is even expected to be ready until next week. He is "testing" his knee and hasn't been in full practice.

If he plays it might hurt the Steelers. He just suffered it a couple of weeks ago and "testing" it doesn't sound like he is ready.

Yep, I heard that too. He said that Palo hasn't been running or practicing so there is no way he plays. Doubt it's a smoke screen since he isn't even due back until after next week.

...And I don't want to see him in the game either.

I hope he does play, the same way I hope Brady is in everytime we play NE, and Manning is in when we play Ind. No excuses or copouts after a Chargers victory.

If he doesn't play- Expect Rivers to go crazy against an average Pittsburgh Secondary

I want the win...easy is better. Hope he is out! Hope Ben is out!...Hope the steelers don't show up and lose by default.

I just want this win! I will take any advantage we can get...my pride is attached to the "W".

Now, Rivers will have a big day whether #43 plays or stays home...our passing game is becoming elite!

Strained MCL's don't just get better in 3 weeks. I think the guys that called smoke screen are right on this one.

Any opportunity we have to increase our "W" odds is always welcomed regardless. But, as long as the Steelers continue to blow their games in the 4th we have that on our side as well. Add that to our team's (hopefully solid) performance and I smell a lovely recipe for a "W" in Pittsburgh!

Even if Polamalu does play I can't see him hounding Gate's all night, Gate's may just end his season if he tries. I'd hate to see that but Gate's definitely has size on his side.

I don't think they'd line him up against Gates, I think he's going to tail Sproles and LT all day rather than committing a slower linebacker to do it.

Which is good in its own way because it limits over the top coverage on Jackson, Floyd, and Gates.

If I recall correctly, in the last meeting between these two Pal, made Gates day extremely long. I could be wrong but he seemed like Gate's shadow to me.

Every team deals with injuries. We've lot our best defensive lineman for the year and replaced him with a guy that was an airport grunt last year.
We've lost our center and the heart of our offensive line, and our right guard - both of which were replaced by guys would are doing a decent, but not great job.

Whining about injuries is just that. Whining. It's football. Guys.get.hurt.
ESPN said Polamalu is out 30 minutes ago. I hope their right.

    Yep.

Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwin (Sirius NFL Radio) both just took the Chargers to win this.

WOW. I'm shocked. I figured they'd split on their picks. But they agree that something just ain't right in Pitt. And with Polamalu out... they expect Rivers to go nuts.

Damn I feel good about this one.

Sounds like he is out, which means whatever team we face in the playoffs is a completely different team.

I just want us to score in TD's in the redzone. That will lead to "W's".

If we take field goals on 5 out of 6 redzone chances again this week against a defense and scheme that even without Polamalu is better than Miami's D. We will lose. The formula is simple, stop the run, and score TD's not FG's in the red zone and we will be laying a terd right on the field in Shitsburgh.
