    I know that it really doesn't have a significant purpose, but does anyone else use it here?

    Ray, think of it as "micro-blogging" - a way to tell others where you are at and what is on your mind.

    In my case - nobody would be interested in how I had my eggs this morning. ;)

    I have a good friend that uses it - (he is a consultant) - to some kind of advantage, but when pressed couldn't really explain to me exactly what that advantage was, nor how cost-effective in terms of his own time spent inputting to the thing was.

    On my own, I decided it was another of those social networking things for those folks who don't really have a life, but want to share it. :tup:

    OK Ray, since I've got plenty of time on my hands (actually having a bit of trouble sleeping), I compiled a little list of stuff you might be interested in on twitter.com -

    SDUTCanepa / Nick Canepa
    sandiegosports / SanDiego.com
    SI_RossTucker / Ross Tucker
    crimetime31 / Antonio Cromartie (locked)
    SI_JimTrotter / Jim Trotter
    mortreport / Chris Mortensen
    SI_PeterKing / Peter King
    DonBanks / Don Banks
    gregaiello / Greg Aiello
    kassimosgood / kassim osgood
    richeisen / Rich Eisen
    SDUTChargers / SD U-T Chargers
    gartrelljohnson / Gartrell Johnson (not currently active)
    SteveGregory28 / Steve Gregory
    shawnemerriman / Shawne Merriman
    MrLaFrance / Jamaal C. LaFrance
    joelprice / Joel Price
    chargers / San Diego Chargers
    ccpearce / Casey Pearce
    Yoffe / Scott Yoffe

    Several of those are currently inactive (Don Banks might be on vacation or something?) - others are a bit "too" active but I left them in there for you to check out.

    ~~~
    OK - now I've got to say it. I'm fully retired and have time to play with junk like this, but back when I was a working slug there is simply NO WAY I would have had time for this stuff. 'Nuff said.:tup:
    I've thought about trying it out a few times but never got around to it. I just don't see myself using it enough.
    I love twitter :)
    I get updates from all my favorite football sources, players, comedians and friends - and if I feel like sharing what's on my mind I do (whether anybody cares/listens or not is immaterial :lol I'm not super interesting)
    We use it for our business to keep prospective candidates (we are an executive placement firm) up to date on the job opps we're working on, or backgrounds we're looking for.
    I'm weighing the benefits and the cons of using Twitter in helping to promote my website. I do relatively well, but I can use more users to keep/drive up my service fees.
    Two of the applications I'm considering to enhance Twitter, if I choose to go down that path, are TWEEDECK and TWHIRL. Anyone here know more about those two products?
    I already use RSS, but not Delicious, Digg, or Fark. Is there a reason why I should use these other three?
    Thanks for any input!
    I use tweetdeck, not sure how useful it would be for you as a business tool - it's not much easier to use than regular twitter or a twittergadget via igoogle - but it is handy for keeping facebook status updates, twitter updates and twitter direct msgs organized and in one consolidated format. :icon_shrug:
    Twitter is the most self absorbed way of communication, for those who do it, and those who just have to read about other people's mindless text messages. I don't care what you had for lunch, who you just bumped into, or any other non newsworthy event in your life.
    Seriously, how does anyone actually give a **** what someone else is doing 24/7? Really? If you actually do, you should probably die in a fire. I mean, if you actually have a life to begin with. If you're paying attention to someone's twitter, you probably don't.
    What you described is self-absorbed. What I want to do with it is far from self-absorbed. I'm only contemplating Twitter for business purposes.
    Here is one for ya from an agent I won't be following on twitter:
    Kassim Osgood is hoping this season he gets a chance to contribute as a receiver or safety. He can be much more than a special teams player10:45 PM May 24th from Tweetie [IMG]
    Ok, I've finally decided how that I do want to use Twitter and the best way to incorporate it into my business website. I represent several machine shops in the greater San Diego area. I'm always getting people who want me to get the word out that they're having an open house, need applicants for open positions, etc. I will have my website send out 'tweets' every time I update the website's database. I already do this with RSS and its working out fine.
    Hopefully, doing it that way will generate more customers and revenue without pissing off the people who use my service as an extension of their business needs.
    I have a Twitter account but really overall i think it is lame.
    It has been ok for getting updates with profootball talk and the devteam who do the jailbreaks with Apple iPhones and that is kinda nice getting updates but for everyday people.....its kinda gay. They just post stuff like " getting ready to go to my Sons ballgame", or..."going to have breakfast", "Going to bed", "getting ready to go to work".
    That kinda stuff i can do without.
    it was a move in solidarity with the protestors in Tehran. The state police was hunting the twitterers who were keeping people up to date initially with the riots. So to make it harder to do their job, lots of people switched their location to tehran. Never bothered to turn it back but now I shall.
    I'll be alot more active come football season - LORENSC
