Vegas book places odds on Chargers' schedule
    Written by

Last month, the NFL announced the Chargers' regular-season schedule.

On Wednesday, a Las Vegas sportsbook offered its early impressions.

Cantor Gaming released weekly handicaps for every NFL game through Week 16, and the Chargers are considered the favorite in 10 of them, most in the AFC West. Their Sept. 10 season opener in Oakland is a pick 'em.

This isn't September or October, of course. It's May.

To analyze a schedule now is to overanalyze, considering how the complexion of every matchup will change in the coming months.

But at first glance, according to the Vegas book, the most difficult spots on the Chargers' schedule will be Week 5 (at Saints, four-point underdogs), Week 11 (at Broncos, 3.5 points), Week 14 (at Steelers, 3.5 points), and Week 16 (at Jets, 2.5 points).

Aside from Week 1 (the pick 'em) and Week 17 (spread not listed) against the Raiders, San Diego is considered the favorite in its other games.

Elsewhere in the division, the Broncos are favorites in seven games with three pick 'ems, according to Cantor. The Chiefs are favorites in six with two pick 'ems. The Raiders: four with one.

The Chiefs aren't favored to win a game until Week 8 when they host the Raiders (+4), but they're favorites in five of six games between Weeks 11 and 16.

The lines are available in Las Vegas at the M Resort, Hard Rock, Tropicana, Cosmopolitan, Venetian, Palazzo, and Palms.

Full Cantor odds for the Chargers:

--Week 1: Chargers (pick) at Oakland Raiders
--Week 2: Titans at Chargers (-6)
--Week 3: Falcons at Chargers (-3.5)
--Week 4: Chargers (-1) at Chiefs
--Week 5: Chargers (+4) at Saints
--Week 6: Broncos at Chargers (-2.5)
    --Week 7: BYE
--Week 8: Chargers (-3.5) at Browns
--Week 9: Chiefs at Chargers (-5.5)
--Week 10: Chargers (-3) at Buccaneers
--Week 11: Chargers (+3.5) at Broncos
--Week 12: Ravens at Chargers (-1)
--Week 13: Bengals at Chargers (-5.5)
--Week 14: Chargers (+3.5) at Steelers
--Week 15: Panthers at Chargers (-5.5)
--Week 16: Chargers (+2.5) at Jets
--Week 17: Raiders at Chargers (not listed)

Same every year because it's hard to factor the black hole that is Norv Turner.

I sure wish some barista would inform these so-called "professionals"
that AJ Smith destroyed the Chargers long ago. The team has no chance.

I'm beginning to wonder how you have hard drive space for anything ELSE, Blewy!

Digging less deep, they're giving the Broncos a slight edge to win the West- with the same money line:

    Broncos +140
    Chargers +140
    Chiefs +450
    Raiders +600

The Boltz hover somewhere around 8/1 to win the AFC (Patriots 3/1) and are anywhere between 20/1 and 25/1 to win it all (Packers 13/2). Not a lot of respect. Fine with me.

The first game a "pick'em?" That's crazy, the Chargers will win that one easily.

Yes, so long as Dombro doesn't have to play LT for us in that game, we should be fine. I'm not sure I've ever seen a LT get beat as regularly as he did in that first Chokeland game last year.

You mean like we handily won our first game with the Raiders last year? Oh wait...

We are +4 at the Saints with everything they have going on off the field?

You mean the one in the middle of the season when we were playing dudes from the stands at OL, and not the one at the end of the year when they had a playoff spot on the line? I don't think Carson Palmer is that good at this point in his career, so having a full off season doesn't concern me. Wimbly gave us fits in the game you mentioned, and he is no longer a Raider. The Chargers were the better team at the end of the season, and I see nothing that happened in the off season that changes that. In fact, I think we're probably better than we were that game and I don't know if the Raiders have done anything to improve themselves other than maybe having McFadden back, though they no longer have Bush.

So yeah, I will HAPPILY take the Chargers in that "pick'em" game.

I just hope its not like the last few times when we have traveled up there. We have came out of those games hurting big time as those Raiders were out to do some damage to us.
