If you have not already heard, Walmart has decided to take $470,000 from Debbie Shank, a 52 year old mother of three (One of her sons recently died in Iraq), who was involved in a terrible car accident crippling her short term memory, leaving her in a wheelchair, and in a nursing home.

Because of the fine print of Walmart's health insurance plan, since Debbie was involved in a car accident and was awarded the money to take care of the tragic aftermath, they are entitled to take all the money that was supposed to go to taking care of Debbie.

THEY ACTUALLY WANT $470,000 (she only got $417,000 from the settlment) from this handicapped woman in a wheelchair, who needs it to be taken care of in the future. This coming from a company that made $90 billion last quarter...

Here is the link to the full story:
    http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/25/walm...

I'm asking everyone to please stop buying from Walmart, and to pass on this story to everyone you know.

I stopped awhile back, also canceled my membership to Sam's Club. I try to spend my money with the local merchants as much as possible. I may buy cheap plastic crap sometimes, but not from them.

I read this story on another website I frequent, and was absolutely outraged. The corporation's excuse for continuing with the lawsuit was utter horseshit, and I hope they start losing business because of this.

I don't usually go off on tangents like this, but I sent a blistering E-mail to the Wal-Mart website and am encouraging everyone I know to stop shopping there. They certainly will never receive another dime from me, and I used to be a huge Wal-Mart shopper. My cousin worked for Sam Walton for over 30 years, and the man he knew would be spinning in his grave to see what his company has become. Fuk 'em.

I saw this on the news a few days ago. It's really messed up. Walmart needs to just let this one slide.

It use to be almost all American made products and a store that did it's best to help the communities it was in...

    ... now it's a greedy $-driven monster peddling Asian-made goods.:icon_evil:

Instances like the linked story exemplify what their corporate philosophy has become:tdown:

    A few Walmart facts:

-They have the most empty floor space in the USA. This happens when Walmart closes a store because they bled a city dry.
-They don't like comparison shoppers. Just TRY and walk into a Walmart with a list of items and their prices at competing stores. You won't be asked to leave, you'll be escorted out.
-God forbid you're an employee there and decide to date a coworker going through a divorce. You'll both be fired. Take Walmart to court? They'll send triple the amount of lawyers to defend itself.
-They were levied with the largest fine ever for employing illegal immigrants. Walmart didn't bat an eye. They just wrote a check.

I worked (briefly) at a Walmart grocery distribution center about 12 miles from home. Let's just say that it sucked. Benefits were piss-poor for a company of this size & they expected unbelievable production, set you up for failure, & reprimanded you for ANYTHING - even accidentally clocking back in EARLY from your lunch break.

Walmart comes to small towns & rapes the little guy. Some say it creates jobs, but of what caliber? :icon_shrug:

I think it tears apart the fabric of small towns.

It's nothing more than a cost of doing business.
