"Also Monday, Turner said linebacker Anthony Waters underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday and will be sidelined two to three weeks. Waters missed last season while recovering from a torn ACL in the same knee while playing for Clemson in 2006."

Damn, I was getting hyped on this guy. I hope he gets it together and can get on the field.

    More news in there:

Eric Parker will be gone, and they'll announce it by the end of the week.

"Receiver Eric Parker, who missed all of last season with a toe injury, wasn't at the team complex Monday and his tenure with the Chargers could end within the next couple of days.

"If we have any developments regarding Eric, we'll let you know immediately," Smith said."

And Hardwick might be on the PUP list and could miss the first 6 weeks of the season...

"In other injury news, Turner said center Nick Hardwick is making progress from offseason foot surgery, but is a candidate to be placed on the physically unable to perform list. If he were placed on that list and not removed before the start of the season, he would be required to sit out the first six games of the regular season."

Now why would they put him on the PUP list if there is a chance he could be back within the first 6 weeks of season? What do we gain by that? Seems crazy....

Only good news in the article is Gates is coming along nicley... but we'll see. thank god for the easy early schedule.

I'm not too worried about Waters.

He had his knee scoped Friday, the 18th.

3 weeks is what? Right up until the first preseason game.

He won't miss any preseason games or the regular season.

In fact, I don't see him missing much more than this week, and could even be ready to go in limited drills as early as Friday.

The fact that he was walking around Chargers Park with just a slight limp is a very good thing.

If it's not a trade, there is no logic to dumping Parker this soon. As for Hardwick, the first third of the season is not the hard part. On the PUP he can participate in ways he can't on IR and he will be ready to go the day he is recovered and eligible. Parker provides insurance against injury as well as being useful in training camp, even if he doesn't figure long term.

I think that the Titans would be a good place for Parker to go to.

Parker's staying away from the complex because he can't be released or traded if he gets injured. He is gone.

As for Hardwick, it sounds pretty ominous that the FO would make a determination this early to PUP the guy. Time to start thinking that he might not play this year.

Maybe he's more eager than I thought to test the free agent market. We won't take a cap hit if he signs with another club. I see no reason to think Hardwick will wind up on the IR list at this point. Besides, Newberry is a good player and he's healthy.

yeah i concur, but i don't know enough about the back story - maybe he was playing on it fine, he got an MRI or something and the doc decided some clean up was needed?

Probably old scar tissue and debris. How serious can an outpatient procedure be?

From all accounts, this after-the-fact scoping to remove loose particles is a frequent thing.

It's not too bad, as he had the procedure on Friday and was walking around the Charger Park campus on Monday, with just a slight limp.

If he had been on crutches or something, that would be really bad.

Yeah, he's the only one that seems 50-50 right now.

Who knows how much healing Hardwick can do in the next month?

Looks like we'll be seeing a whole helluva lotta Withrow and Newberry this preseason.

Jamal had it done at the bye week I think and it took him about three weeks to come back at full power. SO he got scoped in the bye, missed the Texan game I think and came back at like 50% for minny or missed that.

I just wonder why it's happening so late. You would think that he'd have felt any soreness already in his workouts & that the docs would be keeping a close eye on his status. It isn't like he was going under the knife, so why wait? Now he's going to miss snaps that he needs to be getting.

The timing of some of the medical procedures during this offseason has seemed rather suspect to me. Guess there's more to the stories than we get to know. :icon_shrug:

They probably found the loose particles just last week after the mandatory exam to clear them to practice.

That may well be. But, given the nature of his injury, I would have thought that he'd be checked out more often and/or sooner. Why wait until now to determine there's an issue with a guy who had major knee surgery?
