    We have free compensatory picks in the rounds we traded:

    Our 3rd was #93
    Our Comp. 3rd is #96

    Our 5th we traded: #167
    Comp. pick we have: #172

    Not much difference there.

    So we went from #62 to #37, and because of the compensatory picks cancelling out the picks we traded, it only is going to really cost us next years third to swap seconds and move up 25 spots.

    Next years third is late 90's.

    Think about it that way and it was a great trade.

    We got their 2nd.

    They got our 2nd, our 3rd, our 5th, and next years 3rd.

    Draft value chart...

    37 = 530
    62 = 284
    93 = 128
    167 = 24.6

    530 - 436.6 = 93.4

    93.4 is equivalent roughly to the 102 pick give or take (early 4th rounder)

    Considering that the value of a pick being traded the following year won't hold the same value, I think AJ got his worth.

    I was worried we gave up too much, but realized we should be trading quantity for quality at this point.

    Also, I felt better when I saw that Indy gave up more to move up about the same amount. They gave up this years 4th and next years first.

    Shammy posted this in the gameday thread:

    http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/10124927

    Kirwan:

    "It's easy to say things like "the guy just has a knack for it" when describing how some players just seem to find ways to get the ball back on defense. I don't buy the idea that there's a knack to anything in football.

    Guys work at all the skills required to play the game, they have the athletic ability to make plays on the ball, and they never waste an opportunity to do the extra things.

    I always go through the whole draft class looking for those defensive players who found ways to excel at getting the ball back for the offense. The NFL game hinges on turnovers, and defenders who will not drop an interception -- or who are always thinking about stripping the football when they're the second or third tackler on the scene, or are always hustling to a loose ball on the ground -- intrigue me more than a 40-yard dash time... "

    Click the link to see our new safety's name at the top of the list.

    Da Bears.

    The pick actually was originally Washington's, they traded it to the Jets, who in turn traded it to Chicago. And then we got it. It was a well travelled pick. :lol:

    The math works out bittchin' the way EC broke it down and we got the safety out of the draft with the most INT's. That is tits.

    Tits indeed! I always like getting local guys. Makes it feel more like a home team, y'know? (Don't get me wrong, I don't mind in the least that LT is from Texas) :abq1:

    Weddle, Landry and Griffin are the three best safeties in this draft. Nelson is stupid and Merriweather is inconsistent and has character concerns.

    I also love the pick. But I can't believe we had to give up that much to get it. The thing that really bothers me is losing next years third. It's just too much.

    Everybody agrees that AJ has had good drafts, but certainly not perfect. I remember being blown away by the Whitehurst pick last year, and I still don't get it (and don't even mention Kurt Smith).

    We could have had Sabby and given up nada. I like Weddle better, but is the difference between Weddle and Piscitelli worth the price we paid. I don't think so.
