Lots of you in here are extremely oversensitive when it comes to any negative criticism towards Norv. It's as if somebody insulted your mother.

Well tone down your emotions and let's take a review.

Isn't Norv suppose to be the offensive guru?
Did he not have all of the top talent on the field yesterday?

First quarter... touchdown pass to Chambers. Awesome!!!
Next three quarters... Run, run, run, punt.
    LT straight up the middle.
    Tolbert straight up the middle
    Sproles straight up the middle
    Jackson... no where in site
Chambers... no where in site (seemed like last week since that touchdown pass)
    Occasional pass to Gates

8 minutes left and we're behind.
Suddenly Jackson appears and so does the rest of our receiving team!!!
Rivers is throwing and connecting. Were was that for the last 2+ quarters?

It seemed as if Norv's plan was to win the game with the final score being 7-6.
Does that sound like the play calling of an "offensive guru" to you?

Norv was outcoached, did not have his team prepared and just ****ed it up for the team.

The reason you feel better if because it's not the end of the world. It sucked. Sucked horribly. I was there, standing right over the end zone when Rosario caught that final touchdown. I will never forget the sight of the Carolina bench flooding the field.

But we got away healthy, with good things to hold on to. Philip was awesome. On a day when his o-line was being physically dominated, he felt the rush, slid around to avoid tacklers, and made some awesome throws and plays.

We didn't lose anyone for the season. The Pats lost their catalyst. Without Brady, their season is done. They'll be lucky to finish 8-8. The Colts did even worse than we did. At least we got beat by a last second, fluky play, despite being physically dominated most of the game. The Colts were just dominated, period. The vaunted Manning-Harrison-Wayne-Clark machine couldn't manufacture the same sort of comeback that the Rivers-Gates-Jackson machine did against a pretty damn good Carolina defense.

We will get better. The Colts probably will get better. The Pats? They're sunk.

Uhhhhhhh. No, I have not been waiting for a Chargers loss for 8 months.

Question... why are posters in here so oversensitive towards Norv?
Does he sign your pay checks or something? :icon_shrug:

I'm not with this "don't hate the coach, hate the players" attitude.

Nice meeting you at the game yesterday, bro! :icon_toast:

But I can't pin this 100% on Norv. Our defense couldn't stop ANYTHING. We didn't force a 3 and out until the 3rd quarter.

    Great meeting you too.

You're right about our defense BUT they're bound to tire out when they've been on the field all day.

I dont see anyone celebrating. I think some people on both sides are jumping the gun, getting out tar and feathers after one game.

I cant agree with you on your placing the blame on Norv however. Of the three units the offense played the best IMO. The defense, (thus Cottrell) played the worst.

There is alwyas blame to go around, but before we call for any firings, or say "the old coach is back", be it Norv or Teddy, lets see what happens the next two games... IMO.

    Sarcasm.

The defense played poorly but one thing they did right (until the final drive) was that they kept the Panthers out of the endzone.

Offense... Run, run, run, punt until the last 8 minutes.

Norv was conservative but look at what was going on over on there sideline. They had a spectacular, explosive running game and then ditched it once they got past the twenty just to realize that for every ten/fifteen yards we let you have, in the red zone you get none. I'm sick of this prevent defense. 3-4, 4-3 combo and rush the passer. I know it's San Diego but this is ridiculous. Why didn't the switch flip? Why were the rest of you right? The ILBs are supposed to have at least five tackles EACH in a funnel 3-4 and they had ,what, 3 COMBINED. Make a freaking tackle!! Cottrell you have Denver, a weak running attack but good O-line, make something happen. Norv, you have Denver, a very weak run D (on paper), lets get this team back on track NOW! If Denver is played like this heads better start rolling in San Diego.

Oh! I was talking about Coach Fox & their no-name O coordinator. IMO Turner was too conservative, plain and simple. Though we have some real weapons out there and we get a chance to unleash them, it's scary.

Pass, Pass, Run, Run, Run, Run, Pass TD.

So as you see there was not one situation where the team ran 3 times and punted the ball. In fact only twice did we run more than twice in a row.

Perception is often reality, but in this case your perception is a bit skewed, presumably from the frustration we all feel over the loss.

They come and talk to me.
    When I am all alone.

    It's scary.
    Disturbing.
But some how, I'm NOT sorry.

The only thing that's even real
Is the feeling that I don't feel.

    I hear them.
    They're calling.
    The skeletons in my closet.

A touch down and a filed goal, the ability to move the ball against a very good defensive unit.

I am not trying to change your mind. I am just showing the simple facts, there was not one time that we RAN, RAN, RAN, Punt.

Infact Norv mixed things up pretty well in my opinion. That said, it is MY opinion. I understand your opinion, and you are welcome to it, I just cannot agree with it for the reasons documented above.

Again I think you opinion is more than a little colored by the frustration of the loss, understandably so.

Uhhhhhhhh. If we can only score 10 points against the Panthers defense in 3+ quarters, it's going to be a loooooong season!!!

I don't care what Norv mixed... it's ALL about results!!!
Those are NOT the results of an "offensive guru!"

Yes, 30 passes to 28 runs. But that is pretty even and a good mixing of both on most series IMO.

The panthers DLine was HUGE! I commented to Ant about that before the game, and their secondary was fast and attacking.

Dont get me wrong, it is a very frustrating loss, but the Panthers are a really good team, one we coulda, shoulda won against...

Wow... Ya know, run with it if you get your jollies. Judging the season off of the first game is as stupid in my opinion as judging it off of pre-season. :icon_huh: :icon_shrug:

But do as you wish... I cant change your mind, and will not even try any further.

Get a steel umberella and you wont have to worry about that sky falling on you...

    They were without Steve Smith.

Norv better get his head out of his *** or we won't stand a chance in Hell against the Patsies, Ponies, Steelers, etc.

While we were close to 50/50 pass/run the issue is that we didn't mix them up at the right time and let's face it, we passed alot in those last few minutes trying to come back. We can be 50/50 and be predictable.

Their secondary, I had mentioned on the podcast, was pretty good and their DL was solid. We could have still beaten them but we didn't. This was the toughest game we play for the next month (@ Denver, NY Jets [maybe tough], Oakland, Miami) before we go toe-to-toe with New England. If we are going to lose in this stretch, I suppose this was to be the most likely loss. Let's face it, we'd be going nuts losing to Oakland or Miami making a victory against Carolina almost meaningless
