As we ALL know, AJ said his reason for hiring Norv was continuity. Supposedly Norv knows our offense and how it runs.

Well, he was our OC in 2001. At that time there was no Rivers, Gates, Jackson, Sproles, Floyd, Osgood, Manumaleuna, Hardwick, Dielman, Goff, or even Michael Turner.
I am just listing those that were here under Marty and that are still here, with the exception of MT.

At the time Norv was here, our starting offense was Flutie, Conway, Graham, Dwight, Jones, McCrary, Fletcher, Jacox, Clayton, and others who are no longer on the roster.

So how is it that Norv was familiar with this offense?
Oh... he did work with LT but that's ONE player.
Not to mention that our HC at that time was Mike Riley. So how could Norv have possibly been familiar with the changes of the offense over the past five seasons? :icon_shrug:

That's not the point. This is something that nobody else has ever brought up in the forum.

    I'm actually surprised.

It's continuity in the system dumbass. Nobody was suggesting that everything was identical, except maybe your addled mind.

EVERY team has player turnover every season, so it's plugging guys into that system and making it work. That was the THEORY, but as we can all see it hasn't gone as smoothly as we would have liked. I don't fault AJ for the THEORY that keeping things as close to the same was the best course. Sometime **** sounds great on paper, but doesn't work out. I'm pretty sure nobody in the Chargers front office has a crystal ball.

    There is no continuity, dumbass!!!
Norv has ZERO history working with any of this roster, except LT!!!

So he once worked for the Chargers... So What?!!!
If the guy who cleans the locker room has been here for the past couple seasons, why not make him the HC?

The offensive SYSTEM that was in place was very similar to what Norv runs. The defensive SYSTEM in place was very similar to what Cotrell ran while working with Wade Phillips in Buffalo. No f*cking **** the players aren't the same, several years had passed. AJ couldn't hire any of the coordinators, because they were allowed to walk. AJ couldn't hire Manusky or Chudzinsky as coordinators because they were allowed to walk. So he had to hire others to keep things as close to the same as possible. With that strategy in mind, he hired Norv and Ted.

Are you really this f*cking stupid, or is this an act?

Yup. That's why Neil was released and our running game is gone. Because our offensive system was so similar to what Norv runs!! :hilarious:

Are you really this f*cking stupid, or is this an act?

Dude, it's the Air Coryell system AJ was talking about not the damn player's. Cam used it and I believe he learned it from Norv, I think Norv learned it from Zampeezi (SP) it's a derivative of the same system. Check the Coaching tree and you may then understand the continuity theory. :bolt:

The ONLY continuity here is that were looking like the 2001 team. Sometimes playing decent football but not winning.

Again... the Coryell system had an affective running game. It wasn't the main weapon but it took pressure off of Fouts and allowed him to manage the clock.
    Our running game is dead.

The offensive SYSTEM that was in place was NOT similar to what Norv runs.

Like I said "this is something that nobody else has ever brought up in the forum." So I thought I would.

I agree that what's done is done but those who don't learn from mistakes are doomed to repeat them. I hope thats not the case with AJ.

Totally agree, and all things being equal (injuries, free agency, bad drafts) if we don't recover next year, then blow the whole thing up

Free Agency: The only player worth while that we lost in FA in Turner since Niel was released.

Injuries: Our secondaries are pretty damn good too. In 2006, we won four games in a row without Merriman.

Bad Drafts: So Davis is looking like a bust but Floyd and Naanee are the real deal!

    So what's the excuse now?

B4L Research time: Who did Cam work for in his first NFL coaching job.

The Miami Dolphins. J/K... I know what you meant.

Yes, he was the QB coach for the Redskins. So what?
That's hardly continuity IMO. As I said "the offensive SYSTEM that was in place was NOT similar to what Norv runs."

    Are you fugging kidding me?

MT was the only player worth while? Oh My fricking gawd. You titled the thread continuity but yet we lost at least 10 players from last year to F/A or outright release.

Injuries? No, your right, they didn't play a part this year

Draft picks? Please tell me what draft picks in the last two years are complete without a doubt busts?

    Buster Davis?

2nd year wide receiver? Exactly how the F*** is a 2nd WR suppose to make an impact on our team when we have at least 4 other options?

    I'm trying to understand B4L,

But you're pushing the envelope on this one

    Stay with me here...

Who did Marty hire as OC after Norv left? And why did he get hired?

Sure... Olivia, McCree, Florence, Parker, who else (considering Pinnock was released)? None of those are big losses.

Injuries did play a part but still should not have put us in the gutter. Especially in a sh*t division!!!

Also, I said "Buster is LOOKING like a bust." I agree that he might be good eventually but until then... we got Chambers, Jackson, Floyd, Gates, Naanaa, Manumaleuna. Even LT, Sproles, and Tolbert have helped at recieving at times. So it's not like we're thin at recieving!

    Why all the confusion? :icon_shrug:

Cameron but that's not the same thing.
We did not have a winning team at that time, we were completely in a rebuilding stage. Though I do agree that it was a good decision. At least worth a try.

Bringing Norv here as an OC might have been a good decision. As HC was completely stupid!!!
I think AJ bought into the "so easy, a caveman can do it" theory even more than the fans.

BOTTOM LINE... Cam was NOT our HC! You want continuity... how about someone with a similar working structure and personality as Marty?

    Slow down...

Why was Cam brought in as OC?

Take a breath before you answer.

Cam and Wade were already allowed to walk, who would you suggest then if continuity is the goal?

No sh*t, Dick Tracy! Point out where I said we should have brought in Cam or Wade as HC.

From what I've seen of Singletary, I think he would have been a perfect replacement for Marty.
Billick was not available at the time but like I've said several times... "the smart thing to do would have been to tell Marty to advance the team in the playoffs and then we will discuss a new contract. Then make a decision at the end of the 2007 season."
Do that instead of an offer for a 1 year extension.
