Though moving the kickoff spot up to the 35 again was pretty lame the dumbest rule in football for me is the inactive list. Allowing only 45 players on your 53 man roster to suit up is phenomenally stupid.

I think the idea of the rules is to make sure each team has the same amount of healthy players in the game but if you want to put an injured player on your 53 man roster that should be your problem. They get paid, they have to travel with the team, let them suit up. Really overtinkering by the NFL on that one.

    What is yours?

Most irritating part of the game?

The commercial timeout called right after a kickoff. One play and cut to another commercial. Good grief.

I would have to say it's the infamous "tuck" rule.

Tuck rule I can see if the goal is to protect the QB, even in the light of dynamic play.

The one I do not understand is the blow to a QBs head. I get not taking a QB's head off, but when a lineman goes up to block a pass, and his hands come down and graze the helmet of a QB, that should not be a foul.

All the new tackling rules are getting out of hand too, I understand easing up on the violence in the game, but there have been completely clean hits that are called penalties because........"they happened so fast." These penalties can take turn a 4th and long punting situation, into a completly new set of downs that change the game.

I am REALLY WORRIED that Bob Sanders is going to get flagged a couple times in big situations this season, because he's such an aggressive player.

Yea I for one actualy enjoyed when a CHEF would score and do the WORM. One of the best TD celebration choices to date.

Without a doubt the dumbest most annoying thing in professional sports and my favorite game is the coin toss. Why not play rock paper scissors? At least it would be somewhat of a competition.

Remember how the ill-fated XFL decided who got the ball first?

automatic first downs when the penalty yardage wouldn't yield a first down

also, don't like it when the offense is within the 10 yard line and a defensive penalty is half the distance to the goal (say from the 2 yard line to the one) but an offensive penalty is full yardage

15 yards for taunting. Taunting should be encouraged.

How about too many men in the huddle being a 10 yard penalty?

Surprised no one has said the whole whistle blow kills a play and even if a review would correct the call on the field it isnt applicable because there has been a call made by the REF who supposedly should have seen it all.

This. I would understand the tackling rules if this were pop warner maybe. I can understand parents wanting to protect their 10 year old son who most likely won't play in the nfl from serious crippling injuries. But players making anywhere from 100s of thousands per year to more than corporate executives don't really need to be treated like pansys. THere is a reason they are making so much money. No one wants to see them treated like pansies!!!

If we don't fix this trend soon and boot goodell The NFL is going to start looking like a playoff game of basketball with players constantly getting called for fouls just for touching each other at all. Already goodell has made this game like soccer in that contact is constantly getting penalties. WHats next, red cards?

They've been taking the defense out of the game now for years all this other fluffy stuff is just making the game softer.

I think it is dumb that a QB spiking the ball isn't considered intentional grounding. I have no problem with teams using it as a way to manage the clock, but they should lose 5 yards by doing so

I thought that first offense was a white card.. but yea for his first year I was convinced that Roger THE BAG Goodell was going to be a effective asset to the NFL growth....well minus the whole lets go international campagn he was on from the beginning. But yea one year later and with all the years between I have come to Loathe RG as the FACE of the NFL. AND of course everything he has done to sissify the overall experience. Or if he hasnt done it, he could have stopped it.

Pretty soon he'll make tackling the quarterback a penalty and force 2 hand touch for qbs. I swear all these rules against defense is ruining what made the nfl special amongst sports. At the rate he's going it seems like he wants to "make the game more exciting" by making it shootout everyweek. I'm sure he creamed his poants watching the arena bowl with both teams putting up like 70 pts. So stupid. Next thing you know goodell will just ban defense and have qbs throwing to wr's uncontested.
