    You're moving to Oregon? When?

It's really pretty up there and plenty of outdoor fun. My wife wants to go to Boise and I want to go to Texas. We'll see.

Aren't the Repubs running our state?

either way, it's should be up to the parents.

    however,

I cannot agree with spanking an ankle biter before they really understand what it means

It says for kids 3 years and younger.

The only reason it really seems like a big deal is because it seems like a step in the direction of outlawing spankings all together...which would be retarded.

But, I wouldn't spank a 3 year old or younger anyways.

The courts in Texas are littered with cases of child abuse, and for the most part, these involve kids under 5 years of age.

Not sure what this congress critter's tryinta prove-it's certainly not gonna be a deterrent.

Exactly and that's what I meant by a different approach. My son is three and I wouldn't think of spanking him. Now fastforward to him totaling my truck and well...... :icon_eek:

Some of you are not going to like me for this.

I think it is the parents right to discipline their children any way they see fit.

I do not want a Government to tell me what I can and can not do to my children when it comes to discipline.

Plus I just do not want to just be told by a Government to just tell my child no and if the child continues doing the wrong to let them do it any ways.

That is where I should have the right to not just say no and to take them away from the wrong so the child does not do it again.

I do not want the Government to tell me that is also wrong and have the CPS knocking on my door and arrest me for taking away the child from the wrong. Put me in Jail for the rest of my life and have the child be put in Foster care for the rest of the kids, child life, until they are an adult.

I know that some of you are going to kill me now but it is the way that I am.

    So Kill me now.

I agree, for the most part.

    There should be some limit.

No parent, for instance, should be allowed to use a baseball bat for dicipline.

I realize that's a bit extreme, but that's kinda the point i'm making.

In the case of what's being argued here, it would depend on what you consider to be "spanking"

Because I think hitting a 3 year old or younger real hard, no matter what he or she is doing wrong, is too harsh.

A little swat on the behind, however, I don't see as a big deal.

I don't need it written in law. It's common sense.

Using a baseball bat on anybody is assault.

    My opinion.
That is too far. It should be jail time for the rest of the parents life.

I think a closed fist and a back handed open hand anywhere on the child should be wrong but a foward open hand slap on the butt is to me is acceptable.

I just do not want to be told by a Government that I have to allow my child to anything that they want to do. That is where the Government is wrong.

    Good point.

Really, any scenario that would be too much shouldn't have to be written down as law....on the grounds that it should be common sense.

You should never nit or spank a child with any part of your body like a hand you should use a (reedlike)Rod A bible term...the size of the rod depeands on the age of the child...

Geez, spanking a child under the age of three is going a bit too far, but who am I to say when I have no kids. :icon_shrug: There is a difference between discipline and abuse. Being a victim of the later is something no child should endure.

It is bad enough some of these states have nothing better to do then tell parents how to discipline their children, waste taxpayers money, and other more important issues that they fail to sort out. Time to discipline some politicians instead.
