You don't believe in depth? I'm not sure why people think a rookie can come in and instantly supplant Clary in the lineup. Tackle is a position that takes time to get good at, both in technique, and working as a unit with your line-mates.

Typical pre-draft AJ talk. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see him ignore the problems in the front 7...

There are plenty of examples of guys starting at OT their rookie year. Not that we'd pick one of those guys ;)

YOu think if he is brought back, it will be as a backup? Sorry, if he is brought back, they will totally ignore the OL

Then you should pray that they don't reach a new deal before the draft. ;)

We could, but then we wouldn't get a top DE or OLB prospect. We only have one 1st round pick, you know. ;)

Oh I agree that we should go front 7 and re-sign Clary. I just don't put anything past the 'silver fox' ;)

This draft is weak at tackle, so I can't blame AJ. I don't want him taking a tackle just to take one, we have plenty of other holes to fill.

Granted but there's some interesting potential fits at RT especially in Rounds two and three; namely Danny Watkins, Orlando Franklin (my favorite), Marcus Cannon, Marcus Gilbert, James Brewer, etc

2nd round picks can start. Vasquez started as a rookie and he was a 3rd, although he still sucks after 2 years, so maybe he isn't a good example.

He would be taking one to fill the biggest need on the offensive side of the ball.

So you think Vasquez played better than Clary last season?

Nope, but he is only a 2nd year player and there is no way they give up on him yet. Personally, I owuld love to move Clary to RG and get a good RT. That would allow us to address both positions

I know it's a common notion that a slow tackle can just move inside to guard and be more successful..... is that really the case though?

Not sure, but I doubt he would be worse that Vasqeuz. And if RG isn't an option, they they should let him walk because he sucks as a tackle

you guys and your every player on our line sucks

the problem is not the line, it's the play calling. Norv has 3 plays, 7 step drop, run to the right, throw to the flat. Doesn't have another play in the book. Any o-line is going to get dominated when the play calling is so predictable

You're pining for that dazzlingly creative wide-open offense of the Marty era? ;)

I'm sure he'll draft a DE and a OLB...or are you talking about an offensive front 7 (which I've never heard of) ?

Anyone who thinks the O-line isn't a concern, look at this and look at the fact that we were 22nd in yards per rush

Yeah, not surprising... Tolbert was a surprise, but RB using 3 RBs, and playing behind due to STs is not something that will provide good rushing stats. You have to look beyond the numbers... Ol is only PART of your equation.

That doesn't mean we should throw caution to the wind, let our experienced tackle leave and then pray to God that the guy we draft can make an immediate impact.

I agree with you that Clary shouldn't be starting but we should still be smart about how we replace him.

If the guy we draft (going under the premise that we do what we feel is best, not what I think AJ will do, of course) turns out to be a bust I'd much rather suck it up with Clary at RT than some practice squad bum because we let Clary walk.

I'm fine with keeping Clary in there.
Just saying that if you want to get an OT in the first, it's not a valueless pick.
OT is way down my list of needs this year, but who the hell knows what AJ is thinking?

As far as sack stats in the article linked above, I wonder where the pressure was coming from? They weren't all from the right, that's for sure. Dielman and Hardwick weren't exactly stellar in 2010 either.

All the same, if the DL and LB corps aren't improved over the offseason, I guarantee that teams will grind out plenty of wins on a D that will suck against the run and generate little pass rush.
