Before the first regular season game. Why carry him through the season just to prove a point? Cut his *** & make room on the roster for another athletic fat boy!!

    He won't be cut.

And my opinion has nothing to do with him being an Aztec.

Cut him a late in preseason as possible so it more difficult for him to make an impact on his new team.

    We have a winner.

Doubt Osgood is going anywhere. He is too good at special teams. If he continues to perfom at a high level, he stays for 2 more years and then AJ lets him walk.

Only if he becomes a huge distraction will he be moved. IMHO

He'll stay unless Hester + one/two of the other UDFAs shows a great aptitude for special teams. AJ won't cut one of his special teams dynamos

I confused why people think SD will keep Osgood.

We're talking about a special team's player. Not a star WR. Not an average WR. Not even a journeyman WR. Just a special teams player.

How much is Osgood helped in that Sci-Fi's hangtime creates opportunities to get downfield? Heck, even when Osgood was injured, Hanik Milligan .... REPEAT ..... freaking no-name nothing HANIK MILLIGAN, made the damn Pro Bowl.

Osgood is a scrub. Punt coverage gunners are a dime a dozen in the UDFA market. Everyone and their brother would love a chance at playing in the NFL.

But, Osgood wants to mouth off. Not just once, but he did it again this past week.

Why would he not get cut?

    Bull.

Even Cason was practicing gunner at the media only portion of mini-camp (reported by Chargers.com JoeMcRugby).

There isn't room on this roster for so many specialists that can't contribute at a regular position. Kaeding, Sci-Fi and Binn. After that, the roster is stacked and if a guy is going to make it, he's going to have to be above scrub level.

Polk and Osgood are going to find the going tough on making the cut. If it comes down to one spot, Polk makes it. At least he has shown journeyman skills at multiple LB spots, and he's got the proper attitude.

Why? What is a special teams player worth? Not much to nothing.

Why would a team want to pay a six year veteran full pay (about three times the rookie minimum) to cover punts? Why would a team trade for that?

People have Osgood so over-valued around here. If his name was .... Hanik Milligan from the University of Houston ..... then I don't think anyone would think twice about cutting a guy who only plays special teams and runs his mouth ....

Oh yeah ... deja vu' ........

I doubt he likes him much right now ....

    Here's some stories ....

Foes can't get hang of Scifres' hang time - UT

Punt coverage gunner isn't the "indespenable and individual ingredient" .... after all, the ones from our team who make the Pro Bowl have been interchangeable ....

    Hang 'em high - SI.com
How much of Osgood's special team's "monster/demon/dynamo" status is based on Sci-Fi's hang time?

Osgoods speed is an illusion created by the crazy hang time of Scifres' punts. If he had any real speed he would not have gone un-drafted.

AND he doesn't want to play special teams anymore. He is turning into a malcontent. Fuk em.

Hannik milligan made the pro bowl because he took over Osgood's spot when Osgood got injured. Milligan wasn't even remotely near Osgood's level. ANd I said earlier, if Cason/Hester/etc can take up the gunner roll effectively, then Osgood might just be on his way out. Polk might be cut in his own right because he can't stay healthy, even if he is effective on ST. Besides why cut a guy who just challenged your authority? If anything force the bastard to knuckle under and work, and if he doesn't play at full speed then cut him for being ineffective.

My rule of thumb is don't cut anyone unless you've got someone as good/better to take their spot. If we got someone who can be as good/better then Osgood, then dump Osgood. If not don't.

I've been asking about giving a shot at safety to Kassim for some time. If he has the speed that people are talking about, then he could cover just about any TE in the league man to man.

That's almost as delusional as the pass rushing option.

He can't get separation as a WR because he doesn't have very good change of direction skills. His long speed is good, but his short area quickness is limited.

DB's need FAST change of direction skills, loose hips, and short area quickness. Osgood would be flat out HORRIBLE as a defensive back.

    Do you believe that ****?

Would that scrub no name former USC QB take over Brady's Pro Bowl spot if he got injured during the season? Hell no. What kind of logic is that?

Pro Bowl slots don't move down the depth chart.

The Chargers punt coverage is good because Sci-Fi is damn near the best in the NFL. Is Osgood a very good ST's player? Yes, of course, but he's still JUST a ST's player.

People that think he'll be kept on the roster are being illogical about Osgood's role, both past and future. Could he be used in the past as a WR in blocking situations? Yes. Could he be used in the past as an emergency WR during games because of injury? Yes.

Now, that doesn't seem like the case. Norv said he was installing new "wrinkles" into the offense during OTA's/OCS. Osgood won't learn that, and will be behind when training camp starts. You can bet your *** that Charlie Joiner isn't going to waste his time working overtime to get Osgood up to speed.

    UT link
He's basically telling everyone that he's no longer a WR, at least not one while he's on the Chargers. He getting ready to play his position (special teams).

    He's a goner. It's just a matter of when ......

Osgood says he would be wasting his time running routes?:icon_huh:

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense, a wide receiver doesn't need to practice route running...

tell me again how a guy 6' 5" that can run like the wind has been unable to crack the starting line-up...

I guess all of those stud wide receivers the Chargers have had for the past 6 years have made it hard for him...

A.J. generally does what he says he's going to do... and he's said he won't trade Osgood.

Will A.J. cut Osgood? Only if he thinks it will help the Bolts.

    I agree…

What advantage would we have by cutting him? He’s a Pro Bowl caliber special teams player who can pout all he wants and complain about wanting to be a WR but he will report in good shape in time for the season, will play out his contact and he’ll be allowed to leave when it expires..

Nobody wins a Mexican standoff with AJ Smith (as Gates and several others learned the hard way) and Kassim won’t fall into a much better situation than he is currently in with this team. :bolt:
