I still think they're gonna take Wade. Dallas runs the 3-4, and we all know what Wade runs. The only other guy i can see them going with is Ron Rivera, no way do they get Norv.

I just wish they would put a bullet in the rumors and pick someone already.

EC - I agree. This is dragging on too long.

A Pastabelli ESPN article suggests Wade Phillips is still in the running for the Cowboys head coaching job.

Ron Rivera is from the "Tampa-2" school of defense, and the Cowboys current personell don't fit that scheme at all. Selecting him means that most of the current players will have to be completely retrained at a minimum, with some switching positions, and others discarded. It would take a couple years to flop over, and that would make the previous drafts damn near a complete waste - defensively.

I think it's different than Tomlin becoming the Steelers coach. The Steelers have more age on their defense, and can continue to run the 3-4 for a few years, while drafting for a switch to the Tampa-2. The Cowboys have defensive youth.

I don't follow the logic of hiring Norv Turner. The pundits (and Cowboys fans) say they want Turner to groom Tony Romo. Isn't that the reason Smiley Jones brought in Jason Garrett? Why have two cooks in the kitchen? Turner has been a failure as an NFL head coach, with even Warren Sapp saying on Sirius NFL Radio this last preseason that Norv "lacked leadership skills."

IMO, the smart decision for the Cowboys would be to hire Wade Phillips. He could make their defense better, while grooming Garrett to be the future Cowboys head coach.

I love the Norv Turner apologists who say that Norv didn't succeed in Washington or Oakland because Snyder and Davis are "meddlesome owners." Jerry Jones is the KING of meddlesome owners, especially for a head coach that doesn't have the clout, history, and spine like The Tuna.

Which is all reason to root for the Boys to hire Turner. I would love to see them screw this up.
