With Training Camp starting next week, there are many questions on the minds of Charger fans:

Will Philip Rivers shine in the starting role?

Who will be the 2nd corner and Nickel back?

Who will be the Strong Safety?

Can Oben get healthy in time for the season?

    And my favorite question:

    5. What players will emerge as stars?

There are many players who are on the verge of stardom. Unfortunately, many players just can't push through that last barrier. Whether its lack of physical talent, emotional issues, lack of drive, injuries, or simply being in the wrong system for their play style. Whatever the issue, there is always a couple of guys who make that step every year, and of course a few who don't. Here is my list of those who will emerge this year:

Eric Parker – He will be come the #1 receiver before the end of the year. Spiderman just keeps getting better and I think Rivers has faith in him to catch the tough balls.

Luis Castillo – He will become one of the best 3-4 Ends in the game. He is looking leaner and meaner and has got a great engine. Look for him to pound the running game and hold the o-line off Merriman, while picking up 4 to 6 sacks himself.

Quentin Jammer – Some will say he should have become the shutdown corner we were promised a year or two ago. Well the day has come. He has worked hard to increase his ball hawking skills to go with his great speed, size, and coverage skills. He will be the guy that teams throw away from this year.

Tim Dobbins – This guy is mean and a very high motor guy. He will start pushing Cooper and Wilhelm for the ILB backup position and come 2007, with both ILB's most likely gone, he could easily be the starter.

Vincent Jackson – If he can stay healthy, he will be the Slot receiver. This guy has speed, size, and good hands. Learning from K-mac, Parker, and Lofton should accelerate his route running education. I think this guy will be our big play receiver this year catching 40 balls and 7 touchdowns.

Honorable Mentions: Nick Hardwick, Scott Mruczkowski

And now my list of players who just wont make the final step:

Rashaun Woods – This kid has great talent but just doesn't seem to have the drive to make him a great player. He will make the team but rarely see the field.

Carlos Polk – Coming back from injury he is looking to prove something, but with Cooper, Wilhelm, and most likely Dobbins ahead of him, he will not see the field and will be lucky to hang on as a special teamer next year.

Leander Jordan – Look for this under achieving tackle to be replaced by McNeill by week 4 and may never get closer than 3rd string again.

Terence Kiel – Its looking more and more like he will be replaced at SS by Clinton Hart or Jue. He has great run stopping skills but he has just not been the playmaker that the team had hoped he would become.

Ryan Krause – This guy has great hands and good speed for a TE but his injuries have kept him from showing it much. With the addition of Brandon Manumaleuna and Arron Shea, I just don't see a 4th TE being kept. He may end up on practice squad this year.

With Training camp a few days away and the start of the season less than 2 months from now, we will start to see these players emerging in short order. Now lets get the draft picks signed, get our boys in camp and start the competition!
