Hey, do you think Mathews will have an epic year this year? Norv seems to think so, and I kind of have to agree but not just because Norv thinks so. Who cares what he thinks. The reasons why I believe he will are as follows:

No more true #1 WR (Vincent Jackson), leading to more carries
    Leron McClain blocking for him
He's not splitting time with Tolbert anymore
Our offensive line will be improved

With all of these factors taken into consideration, as well as his improvement during this full offseason, I think he has a good change of being the leagues rushing leader (if not 1st, then in the top 3), as well as the leader in yards from scrimmage.

    Tell me what you think...

Depends on our O-line, his health, and the backup RB we still have to sign/draft.

IMO, he already did last season. With a true fullback blocking for him now, I think he's gonna explode, barring injury of course.

He made the pro-bowl as an alternate and was rated top 10 rb drafted in the 1st round over the past 10 years, i wouldn't say he's a break out-candidate considering he's already fairly well known.

He'll have similar production to last season. He still won't be worth his drafting position, and he still (likely) won't be a feature back. Whether or not he gets additional yards relative to last season will almost assuredly be more a factor of the score in the game in the 4th than a result of increased performance on his part.

Well he averaged 5 ypc and caught 50 balls last year with an O-line in turmoil and his franchise QB having the worst year of his carrer. I'm not sure what it'll take for people to consider him worth his price tag, but after 2 years he's developed into a good every down back and still has upside.

He will rush for 1,816 yds. with a 5.3 yard average per carry.
    Then I will wake up.

Fantasy wise he was one of the reasons I won it all, Well him and a late FA pick up in Marshawn Lynch hahaha but In all seriousness I think when healthy the guy is a stud. Not sure what you're expecting out of him 1000 yards 6 td's with a 5 yard per carry with another 500 yards recieving seems pretty good to me. He's not LT nor will he ever be, just like Luck will not be Manning and Meachem is not going to be Vjax.

Will he have a breakout year? NO! He's already been really good
Will he continue to Produce and get better? Absolutely

when he can take the handoff and leap 80 yds to the endzone in a single bound, while healing Larry English's inevitable injuries. Alternatively, when UDFAs stop matching/exceeding his production.

How about we wait and see if the guy comes into camp this year in some sort of shape at least, unlike last year, where apparently he learn't that sitting on one's couch for 3 months playing video games isn't the ideal preparation needed to become an elite RB in the NFL.

Still teetering on the fence in regards to Ryno, still has alot to prove.

Well this one has already happened in spades, Tolbert at times had no business replacing Mathews in the game andsome times it proved to be a drive killer. Without getting into who's responsibility that was...*coughNorv*...I think our offense was noticably slower and less dangerous with RM off the field.

I wasn't referring exclusively to UDFAs on this team.

Ha Ha That pissed me off so much, we're driving up the field with Mathews then once we get close to the end zone they put in Tolbert. He dances to the outside for negative yards, he tries to run it up the middle but dances instead trying to shake a tackle but fails, Rivers can't complete 3rd down so we settle for a field goal.

(This 2nd part has nothing to do with you or your quote Matilack)

But seriously people need to relax with their expectations on Mathews, It's only his 2nd year in, he has been in a pro bowl sure it was by default but I didn't hear them calling CJ Spiller. If we didn't move up and grab Mathews in that draft the Texan would have grabbed him or some other team ahead of us. Would you rather us have taken Best? Hardesty? Gerhart? Tate (Tate is the only one I'd want but still a lot of his and Foster's success I believe has to do with their offensive line) but anyways Mathews is a good running back who will continue to get better and better

This. Those that are still waiting for Mathews to "break out" are just hating on him. With McClain leading the way, I think Ryan is going to put up some sick numbers.

Everyone knows your gonna resent Mathews right up until he wins an MVP, or cures cancer...whichever comes first....only because of what it cost to draft him.

Its time to just be happy AJ seems to have gotten 1 of his last 5 first round picks right.:abq2:

If he can stay healthy, I'd think he could pull off a good (if not stellar) season. He's still too apt to fumble and sometimes he looks like he's not quite sure what he's supposed to do. But he breaks every few weeks, so it's a crapshoot if you ask me.

The fact that u troll almost every post i make regarding Mathews is hilarious to me. But since u do, i would have thought u would have remembered that I said multiple times last year that he was growing on me. However, his inability to stay on the field while splitting carries gives presents a lot of doubt IMO that he can stay healthy taking the full load. Raise his nutsack off ur forehead for a few seconds so u can see what, not just me, but a lot of people are talking about.

I see signs of brilliance from the kid. However, just when he starts to grow on you he misses a game or two. He has upside and the potential to be good but needs to stay on the field in order to be worth his price tag.
