Will Rivers, statistically and maybe result wise, better Fouts in his career?

    Stats

    Dan Fouts (15 years)

    43,040 yards, 254 tds, 242 ints

    Philip Rivers (6 years)

    14,951 yards, 106 tds, 45 ints

    To go

28,089 yards, 148 tds, (a lot more ints)

if Rivers (28) plays 8 more years, he'll have to average:

    3511 yds/yr and 18.5 td/yr

    Rivers last 4 years
    3700 yds/yr, 26.3 td/yr

I know injuries, lockouts, et. might have an effect but I think he'll do it (hopefully in Chargers gear)

Result wise, both had/have had mediocre postseasons, one more AFCCG appearence and they'll be even, Rivers will surely be more accomplished that Fouts in that department when all is said and done

EDIT: 18 game seasons will also have an effect

That's a long and windy road to get over 40.000 yards.
Dan is our hof-hero and Philip our active passing king.
If PR will bring us the lombardi, he'll be the best anyhow.

IMO, Rivers is everything Fouts was, and more... and without being so crabby, too.

It doesn't matter if River's ends up with better stats than Fout's. Dan will always be remembered for what he accomplished as a Bolt as he was remarkable in a different day and time. River's will have to bring home a Lombardi to best Fout's in my opinion. There have been way to many changes for offensive player's to fairly compare the two.

Exactly my thoughts. If Rivers leads us to Super Bowl glory, his stats don't mean squat.

On another note, I do think he can do it, and I hope he gets better every year.

The only thing that matters now is Rivers and his ring.
