Will the Vikings pursue Vincent Jackson?
    August, 24, 2010

    By Bill Williamson
San Diego is in an interesting position when it comes to Vincent Jackson’s holdout. They never know which team is going to get racked with injuries or get desperate and make a move to pursue the Pro Bowl receiver.

That may have just happened in Minnesota.

Standout Vikings receiver Sidney Rice is likely out until November with a hip injury. With fellow receiver Percy Harvin dealing with serious migraine headache issues, the Vikings are in a lurch at the position.

There are currently no intriguing names available on the open market, but there will be some decent players available Sept. 4 when teams make their final cuts. Minnesota can wait to see what pops up or it can go big and try to make a deal for Jackson and get a star.

The Vikings may be tempted to take a shot at since Brett Favre is back and they know this is their best shot for a Super Bowl title.

There are plenty of catches, though. The Chargers have only given Seattle permission to talk to Jackson about a contract. Still, if a team offers the Chargers enough goods, I’m sure additional permissions would be granted.

Still, the only way Jackson, who is facing a three-game NFL suspension, is going to report to any team is with a new contract. Jackson wants a contract similar to the deal Miami gave Brandon Marshall after getting him from Denver for two-second round picks in April. Marshall is being paid $50 million over five years.

Minnesota would likely have a difficult time swallowing that pill considering Rice and Harvin are both young players who have bright futures. Still, the Vikings’ receiving crew is currently a mess. Jackson would solve the problem, starting in Week 4. Will it be worth it? Perhaps not.

But it wouldn’t be shock if Minnesota considers it. Just like any team that may suffer a big injury at the position during Jackson’s holdout.

Are the Chargers eyeing any Viking players yet? What about a SU trade VJ for Rice.

The reason VJack is a good option is because they havn't given Sidney Rice his long term deal yet either. That said the Vikes already have some huge $$$ invested in their offense.

Just saw this, looks like jus as quick the Vikes are out of the consideration race like Seattle.

Over an hour ago - WR Sidney Rice having hip surgery would be another blow to a punchless offense, which is so desperate it is looking to sign WR Javon Walker, according to multiple reports. Walker played most recently with the Raiders, but he hasn't put up significant numbers since 2006. Vikings RapidReports

JasonLaCanfora - Vikings have acquired Greg Camarillo from Miami. Badly needed a WR. Makes sense for both teams

I am not sure after VJ made it public what he expects that many teams will be interested in persuing him.

He looks more like Harvin insurance (migraines) than a Rice replacement. He is that possession type of guy.

VJ will not play for anyone in 2010 unless he lowers his expectations. He wants $30 mil guaranteed while Brandon Marshall only got $12 mil guaranteed? And he is facing a 8+ game suspension the next time he screws up, while Marshall isn't making Marshall less of a rish. What is he smoking?

Vikings reportedly explored dealing for Chargers WR Jackson
    NFL.com
    Published: Aug. 25, 2010 at 09:30 a.m. Updated: Aug. 25, 2010 at 02:09 p.m.
The Minnesota Vikings reportedly were among the teams to kick the tires on San Diego Chargers Pro Bowl receiver Vincent Jackson.
However, the Vikings, who lost Pro Bowl wideout Sidney Rice for at least half of the season due to hip surgery this week, balked at the restricted free agent Jackson's demands for a five-year, $50 million contract with $30 million guaranteed, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Wednesday, citing league sources.

The Vikings said no thanks and signed free agent Javon Walker instead on Tuesday.

The Seattle Seahawks were the only team granted permission by the Chargers to speak with Jackson's agents about contract terms, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported on Saturday.

Jackson and Pro Bowl left tackle Marcus McNeill, also a restricted free agent, have skipped all offseason workouts and training camp practices while seeking long-term deals. The Chargers tendered both players one-year contracts valued at more than $3 million. Those tenders were reduced by more than $2.5 million when the duo did not sign by June 15.

This past weekend, the Chargers placed both on the roster exempt list, meaning they cannot play for three games after the date they sign and report. In addition, Jackson already must serve a three-game suspension for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy.
