Tennessee Titans, the Chargers had their backup running back and number-two quarterback marching the offense down the field behind three reserve offensive linemen for a punctuating touchdown.

“I was in for three plays, one a 73-yard run and then a 14-yard touchdown run after a short gain,” center Cory Withrow said. “It’s fun to be a part of a team that gives every body a chance. It’s more fun when everybody gets out there and gets it done.”

The highlight-reel runs by Michael Turner and Charlie Whitehurst capped an afternoon in which everyone got a chance, and like Withrow said, everyone got it done.

In addition to Withrow, Scott Mruczkowski and Cory Lekkerkerker helping the Chargers grind out their final score, nine different receivers caught a pass for the Bolts Sunday. Marques Harris had a tackle and broke up a pass in the fourth quarter and the special teams units kept Tennessee from returning a punt all day.

    Cover your eyes
Rout in San Diego worst loss since 1989 for winless Titans

    By JIM WYATT
    Staff Writer

SAN DIEGO — Titans quarterback Kerry Collins pointed at himself. Coach Jeff Fisher pointed at himself. Members of the defense pointed at themselves.

Following a humiliating loss to the Chargers, there was plenty of blame to go around.

    Again.

Two weeks into what was supposed to be a rebound season, the Titans are 0-2. Their 40-7 loss here on Sunday was the organization's most lopsided defeat since 1989, when rookie quarterback Vince Young was 6 years old.

"Embarrassing is not the word for this. Embarrassing is not the word, bro,'' linebacker Keith Bulluck said. "You can't print what I would say. It's (expletive) up. We are professional athletes, and we did this.''

For the second week in a row, the Titans went scoreless for three quarters. They managed just one first down the entire first half, and that was courtesy of a San Diego penalty.

The Titans didn't cross midfield until late in the third quarter, and Collins played so poorly that Young was called on to finish.

"The responsibility is on my shoulders on this one,'' said Collins, who was 6-of-19 passing for 57 yards, two interceptions and a quarterback rating of 1.3. "I didn't execute this offense the way it is supposed to be executed. … There's nothing wrong with this system. What's wrong is when your quarterback plays the way I played.''

Although there are rumblings that Young should be handed the reins, Collins is clearly not the only problem.

The Titans have been outscored 139-33 in their last four road games.

The defense has allowed 869 yards in two games. That includes 467 to the Chargers, who got 235 passing yards from quarterback Philip Rivers in just his second NFL start.

    I didn't know a QB could get a rating of 1.3 :icon_eek:
