Welcome sir. How is Leeds doing this year? Are they in the division below the Premier (Championship)?

I'm a USA fan, but I follow the Bundesliga rather extensively, and somewhat pay attention to the Premiership.

I was cheering for Shamrock Rovers to make the UCL... not to be. But hopefully they'll do well in the Europa League. I'll have to check the group stage draw.

Unfortunately that was likely to have been VfB Stuttgart... (crosstown neighbors). I do remember they had some difficulties with UEFA.

Leeds are in The Championship, and not doing very well so far I might add. A long way to go however.
I have a passing interest in German football I must admit, I like St Pauli, they seem like a mad bunch.

Yes Shamrock Rovers are the first team from the Republic of Ireland to qualify for the group stages of a european competition. Its a pretty big achievement considering the club nearly went under about 5 years ago, while most of the current players would be on fairly modest wages, about €1000.00 per week, which compared to players on the other team remaining in the competition, is pretty crap. Their ground only holds about seven thousand, so they have applied to UEFA to add between two and four thousand temporary seats to meet the demand. The big game for them is of course against Tottenham Hotspur in December.

There's this term I like very much... "surplus to requirements". Man City had about five players recruited by the previous manager they needed to unload. The UEFA Fair Play Regulations mandate minimizing losses at the risk of your UCL place. So Adebayor, and Santa Cruz went out on loan. Bellamy was a free transfer to Liverpool and they managed to recoup 4 mil quid by selling Shaun Wright-Philips to QPR. That left Wayne Bridge who won't make any squad list on 90,000 pounds a week. Probably more than enough to run Shamrock Rovers.

btw... Spurs are probably only covering 100,000 of Adebayor's wages. City are probably in for 80,000 themselves.

Argentina vs Venezuela friendly being played in Calcutta, India got off to an unprofessional and disrespectful start. As the first national anthem was getting ready to be played, the announcer said, and now, the national anthem of Venezuela, so the camera man slowly starts panning the Venezuelan players, only it was then ARG national anthem. No one seemed to notice the other team was singing. Then the announcer said, and now the national anthem for Argentina, and started slowly panning the ARG players, yet it was the Venezuelan national anthem. With 0nly 10 seconds left to go in the song, did they realize the error and quickly went to the other camera on the Venezuelans... terrible.

Must be a language barrier in India.

That might not be so bad. Totty is in shambles right now. I don't know if they'll put it together before then.

I have to head off to Toronto... so I won't be able to follow any matches today. :(

Hopefully the Hapless Hosers can manage to score some goals and qualify for the third round of the CONCACAF WC qualifiers. Their Gold Cup performance leaves not much room for optimism.

Never underestimate Harry Redknapp. He might be the best manager in English football. Spurs will be good. Not great, but good.

    Ballack is a prima dona.

His club career included stints with Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayer Munich and Chelsea.

hahaha... Bayer finds the money to buy mighty Bayern!

The tackle that effectively ended his Germany career came in the FA Cup final against Portsmouth in 2010 and was committed by former Bundesliga player Kevin-Prince Boateng.

That was a horrible challenge. An absolutely dreadful tackle. Kevin-Prince Boateng is German... (or at least half German). He was their most despised footballer for some time. Things got pretty ugly in the press.

    ---
Just as a matter of interest... Bayer actually used to have two teams... the other being Bayer Üerdingen. Bad times meant they had to sell that one off... and it became KFC Üerdingen... (KFC standing for Krefelder Fußball Club as Üerdingen is within Krefeld... not fried chicken fatsos).

You know Krefeld? it is an unremarkable place just west of D'dorf... (more famous for its hockey team).

What I want to know is what is that magical spray that they put on players who are writhing in pain, that suddenly heals them and lets them jump up and play?

Faking an injury is actually a yellow card offense for unsproting behavior... According to Fifa...

I don't know about the prima donna part. I think he just wants to play, and I'm sure he believes he could still play in 2014 in Brazil at the same level. Quite unlikely he could. The youngsters are looking good for Germany, so it's best to go with them.

I'm not a fan of Boateng at all. He's a Ghana fool.

Side note - I didn't know Timmy Chandler was half German, half american, and he had the choice to choose national sides, and he choose USA. That may have been due to the fact he may have been a backup for the German side, while a starter for the USA side.
