I just flipped to ESPN and heard someone (didn't catch who) arguing that the Patriots are easy favorites on Sunday because a QB is more important than a RB.

He then went on to back up his argument by pointing out that OJ Simpson and Barry Sanders played on some horrible teams....like as though that has anything to do with the upcomming Chargers/Patriots match up.

I think the QB position is more important than the RB position (although not as much as your average person does.)

The problem is, this guy was using that analysis to imply that that means the Patriots are odds on favorites to beat the Chargers.

His line of argument: QB > RB ==> Tom Brady vs LT ==> Brady = QB, LT = RB ==> Brady = Patriot, LT = Charger ==> Patriots > Chargers

listening to all the "analysts" will just give you a headache in the long run. we know espn is naturally east coast biased. marcia might have the 3 rings, but that was before Rivers was starting. i would honestly take Rivers over brady any day. if ppl simply looked at the stats this regular season (92 rating vs. 87.9) then maybe they would have a different opinion. plus who made the pro bowl. anyways, when dealing with a player vs. player comparison, i just try to figure out who would win in a fight. Rivers would beat his ***

anyone see OTL with irvin and LT? pretty good stuff

the oddest thing I'm hearing is that when Merriman went on CBS and picked the Jets, that that's what Bellichek and everyone are getting pissed off about

Merriman did that at halftime of the Jets-Pats game. If Bellichek is pissed at that, then he needs go into another line of work.

I think it is pretty easy to come up with a list of great QBs who played on horrible teams also. Think of all those superbowls that Marino, Fouts, Haden, and Esaison won.

Superbowl dynasties seem to normally have a minimum of three key offensive players at the QB, RB, and Receiver positions.

    Steelers Bradshaw, Harris, Swann
    49ers Montana, Craig, Rice.
    Cowboys Aikman, Smith, Irvin.
Pats are kind of the exception to this rule with no really consistent star running back and receiver.

With all the talk of defense wins superbowls it seems the dynasties have a major offensive element. I think defense gets you there but in the big game the players on O take home the trophy.

Chargers have this element in the making with Rivers, LT, & Gates. Bolts, the next dynasty.

Super Bowl dynasties (if there still is such a thing with free agency) also always have a pretty good O-Line. It all starts with the foundation. No foundation and your offense crumbles. The O-Line is the offenses foundation. We have a better O-Line than the Pats. We win, simple as that.

Guys....I love it. I like and think the chargers do better when they are dissed or viewed as the underdog. To be honest, I was getting a little worried about all of the talk. At the end of the day, it's easy for players to lose focus when people keep telling them they are sure to win and can't lose. I hope some of this talk gets into the Bolt's locker room. You better believe Bellichek is using everything he's got to motivate his players because they're playing on the road.

By the way, I agree with Bill Simmons (love that guy)....the 4.5 pts Vegas has put out there only shows you they don't know which way is up with this game. This will be one of the toughest calls in terms of betting this year.

The first line i saw was Chargers -4.5 and that was on Sunday, now it is at -5, but that is just the site I use so not sure what other sites had them at. The site I am talking about is the greek, not to plug it, but just the site I have been using, so looks to me like the money is going on the Boltz.......:icon_toast:
